Snowboarding

2003 brought about a new volunteer program that has been extremely well received by the youth     involved, participants, and the organization.

This program with the help of many youth that are considered "at risk", in Alternative      Education programs allows students to learn and teach adaptive skiing and       snowboarding at Challenge Mountain and a vast variety of other helpful volunteer skills.

The youth have worked very hard to become volunteers having taken numerous          training programs.  Together, we have developed the snowboarding program to           include their mission statement, written grants, and presented the program to                  the Board of Directors.  The youth should be commended for all they are giving of themselves,               how they have benefited from the program's development, and for created a program that              volunteers previously had not been able to achieve.

The program has received funding and support from the Youth Advisory Committee of the              Charlevoix County Community Foundation, Bay Harbor Foundation, and Petoskey-Harbor                Springs Area Community Foundation.

You have to see adaptive snowboarding to believe it!

Rider Bars are used in several manners.                                   One application is for use with a person who has poor leg stability.

The rider bar also helps with an amputee or someone with visual impairments.

It is also a great teaching tool.
