Ski and Snowboard Beginning Instructor Challenge

     For ski instructors

       1.  In your own words, why is "ski and snowboard school" so important at Challenge Mountain?

       2.  At Challenge Mountain, what does "pizza" refer to?

            a.  A yummy food.

            b.  A tasty food item best served cold and for breakfast.

            c.  a teaching word used by volunteers referring to the shape skis make when snowplowing.

       3.  How do you teach someone to get up a hill on skis?  Describe in your own words.

       4.  How does a person stop on skis?  Describe in your own words.

       5.  Why do you think it is important to give all students ski school if you are working with a new group?

       6.  How does a person learn to carve on skis?  Describe in your own words.

       7.  Is every person allowed to use the snowmobiles to go uphill?

       8.  How would you know if someone needs adaptations for skiing?

       9.  Would it be responsible to turn someone loose to ski if they had not demonstrated the ability to start, stop, put their skis on, take them off, and be able to walk up the hill with skis on?  If no, why?

 

         For snowboard instructors

       1.  What is the first step in teaching snowboarding?

       2.  Why does someone need to know how to get across the hill in one binding?

       3.  What is a heel side turn?  Describe in your own words.

       4.  What is a toe side turn?  Describe in your own words.

       5.  How does a person stop?  Describe in your own words.

       6.  Is it important to teach how to properly latch bindings and if so why?

       7.  Is it important to teach someone how to properly get up from a seated position?

       8.  Should someone be turned loose that has not demonstrated the above skills?

       9.  What is the proper way to fall on a snowboard?

      10.  What if a student tells you they do not want lessons, they can snowboard without your help?  What would you do?
