Exciting News for Challenge Mountain

After thoughtful planning following the sale of the lodge property in late 2024, Challenge Mountain has purchased a facility for indoor adaptive programs.  “As everyone can imagine, we are very excited to start offering programs at the new facility,” shares Executive Director Elizabeth Gertz, “and we will be taking the appropriate time to design and build interior modifications before scheduling programs.”

Challenge Mountain’s experienced programming staff along with a professional architect and contractor will be thoughtful and thorough in designing the interior to provide exemplary experiences for youth and adults living with disabilities. Progress updates will periodically be shared on the Challenge Mountain blog and on Facebook.

In addition to a successful adaptive skiing partnership with Boyne Mountain, Challenge Mountain will continue programming activities with valued regional partners: Crooked Tree Arts Center, Northern Michigan Equine Therapy, Big Water Arts Collective and Camp Daggett. And, outdoor adaptive biking, kayaking, boating and SPIRIT Day Camp will be offered this spring and summer as planned.

The new facility will provide additional opportunities for students and adult participants to enjoy more indoor programs and of course, fun social events throughout the year! Though people have asked, the new facility will be specifically dedicated to programming operations. “Our Resale Store is thriving and will continuing doing business at our current location at 1100 Boyne Avenue in Boyne City,” shares Resale Store Manager Staci Payton. “We’re excited to have our programming colleagues so close,” she adds, as the new facility is less than a five-minute drive from the store.

“We are thrilled that this facility will meet many Challenge Mountain needs, and it reflects the thoughtful input we heard from those who provided input in our last programming survey,” shares Linda Armstrong, Challenge Mountain Programming Director. The survey results conveyed the importance of inclusive, engaging environments in a place where participants can build connections and feel welcome. “This allows us to move forward with those priorities front and center.”

Gertz concludes, “It’s an exciting time for Challenge Mountain. This next chapter means more opportunities to bring smiles, foster connection and expand the moments of confidence and joy that define our programs. We look forward to sharing information as plans take shape, and we are grateful to have such a committed, caring community alongside us on this journey.”
